Technologies.
The diversity of our processes and manufacturing equipment, research capabilities, ability to manufacture customized machines and program management allow us to apprehend almost all requirements related to detailed parts and assembly encountered in aerospace construction. We are good at complex components and related assemblies: complex geometry or heavy load is where our knowledge is best used.
Forging
Forging is a key manufacturing process for vital and critical parts for aerospace applications that we deliver. The grain flow of forged products is oriented to improve ductility, toughness, and increase fatigue resistance. Hence, the reliability, the integrity and the metallurgical and mechanical characteristics of forged products is inimitable comparing to casting and machining.
Our engineers determine the best forging solution, near to net shape forging solution, giving the best buy-to-fly ratio, saving materials and machining costs. CAD & CAN models as well as simulation of forging, heat treatment and machining process are developed since RFQ to increase our agility and adaptability to customer needs. Our solutions are fully integrated and encompass forging and machining optimization reducing industrialization lead time and production costs. We manage the entire value chain from the raw material procurement to the delivery to the OEM final assembly line.
LISI AEROSPACE expertise encompass open die forging up to 150kg and closed die forging up to 40kg. Our forging cells include hammers up 32000Kg meter, screw presses up 6300 tons and hydraulic & mechanical presses up 2500 tons. Close-tolerance parts built to customer design and model based definition for a wide range of materials including Aluminum alloys, Stainless steel alloys, Titanium, Nickel based alloys as well as CMM.
We ensure the heat treatment of a wide range of materials. Our forging machines are used in conjunction with many furnaces which are computer controlled ensuring process stability. Our heat treatment capabilities are fully NADCAP certified.
Extrusion
Extrusion is a key manufacturing process for long bedded parts requiring complex section shape or hollow profile with stringent mechanical characteristics.
LISI AEROSPACE is recognized for its know-how in near net shape extrusion optimizing buy-to-fly ratio and reducing machining costs. LISI AEROSPACE relies on a wide range of extrusion presses, from 400 to 2500t. We extrude billets from 70mm up 180mm (2,752 inches up to 7,087 inches). Their polyvalences allow manufacturing parts by direct or reverse extrusion, in all series of Aluminum alloys including 2000, 7000 series and Aluminum-Lithium. We operate with a fully integrated production line: we ensure in-house heat treatment, quenching (NADCAP certified), forming, machining and all the operations to deliver finished parts.
Forming
Forming meets the need of our customers for complex shapes and mechanical constraints. LISI AEROSPACE produces a wide range of Aluminum, stainless steel alloys and Titanium products thanks to its large forming capacity:
- Stretching machines up to 150 tons
- Stamping press and rubber press up to xx tons
- Hydroforming machines
- Hydraulic presses up to 4000 tons
- Furnace/presses machine up to 4000 tons, to hot forming
- Dedicated machines for specific production lines
Tooling
Each part we produce requires its own unique tools specifically designed for this part. The tools are designed and produced in-house. Simulation is use to validate in advance the production and optimize manufacturing sequence and tools durability. LISI AEROSPACE safeguards the tools for the total life cycle and ensures the required solutions in-house to maintain tools in optimal operational conditions. We keep an inventory of die block and inserts to ensure quick turnaround time.
Machining
LISI AEROSPACE machines several types of raw materials, including Aluminum alloys, stainless steel alloys, Titanium alloys and Nickel based alloys in all our factories.
We have a wide range of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines including 3, 4, 5 and 6 axis machines and a variety of spindles to meet the demanding machining requirement on complex contours up 8200mm and highest accuracy needs. Versatility of the machines ensures adaptability and flexibility to meet our customer needs. We continuously invest several millions of euros in new machines to meet our customers’ ever-evolving needs and we are equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technology to meet the most complex machining requirements.
LISI AEROSPACE has implemented closed door machining to meet our customers’ increasing needs and significantly boost production performance. The autonomous cells can work 24/7 of continuous machining with minimal human intervention to meet on-time delivery and support aerospace industry ramp-up.
The flexibility and the adaptability of these plants enable us to propose rapid prototyping services for Titanium and Nickel based components. We develop prototypes using CAD-CAM software to assess the product requirements and adjust it according customer’s needs. Using computerized manufacturing equipment in our CNC machine shop, we ensure each item is produced according to exact specifications.
Inspection &Testing
The testing and the inspection of raw materials, manufactured assemblies and components at every phase in their production cycle play a crucial role in the quality and the safety of the final product that we deliver to the customer.
We ensure non-destructive testing (NDT) including different techniques:
- Radiographic inspection (RT)
- Liquid penetrant inspection: sweating (LPI) ( 2 automatized lines NADCAP certified)
- Magnetic particle inspection (MPI)
- Ultrasonic testing (UT): contact & immersion
- Eddy Current testing (ET)
- Visual inspection
- Hardness testing: ultrasonic contact impedance
- 3D laser scanning: contact and contactless
Thanks to digital technologies, our qualified technicians analyze test results on computers and decide if the part is compliant, according to aerospace strict standards.
Within our laboratory certified by Safran & Airbus, we ensure destructive testing (DT) based on lot sampling to check the physical properties of manufactured products such as :
- Micrographic test
