25th anniversary celebration of the manufacturing of composite fan blade leading edges in Marmande!

On Friday, December 13, the President of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region Alain Rousset, the Mayor of Marmande Daniel Benquet, the Prefect of Lot-et-Garonne Béatrice Lagarde, and the President of Safran Aircraft Engines Olivier Andriès, accepted the invitation of Marc Steuer, Site Director of Marmande and Emmanuel Neildez, Senior Vice President General Manager LISI AEROSPACE to celebrate 25 years of manufacturing composite fan blade leading edges. Our teams from Marmande were also present and can congratulate themselves on mastering this technology over the past 25 years.

The composite fan blade leading edges represent 50% of the turnover, i.e. 80 million euros today and 100 million in the near future, according to Emmanuel Neildez, Senior Vice President General Manager LISI AEROSPACE.

But… what is a blade leading edge?

This titanium part is attached to the front section of the engine fan blades – fragile parts because they are made of composite materials – and protects them against impacts.

We can find the composite fan blade leading edges in some of the engines of the Boeing 737, 747, 777, 777X and of the Airbus A320 NEO and Comac C919. These are produced by Safran Aircraft Engines and CFAN.

To meet the demand and evolve under the best conditions, our factory is expanding and plans to build an extension of 4,000 m2 by 2021.
