Description
The HI-LOK™ fastening system consists of two parts, a threaded pin and a threaded collar. It combines the best features of a rivet and a bolt-nut system.
Features
The HI-LOK™ collar was designed to consistently repeat preload on each fastener. The wrenching element breaks away at the designed preload. Preload consistency among fasteners in a joint was a long standing need in the industry. It also eliminated the need for torque inspection and torque wrench calibration. The new threaded collar allows for progressive tightening, clamping up the work prior to torque-off.
The elimination of the wrenching surfaces at torque-off results in weight savings of the fastener and wrenching clearances minimized result in weight savings due to more compact fittings and joints.
The HI-LOK™ collar is self-locking using an elliptical internal thread shape.
In exhaustive tests and in actual application, the HI-LOK™ fastening system has met the highest standards of reliability.
Product Selection
The HI-LOK™ technology is availble on inch (HL) and M metric (HLM) collars.
HI-LOK™ collars can be simple or double-hex. Simple collars are tamper proof and require a specific tool to be removed. Double-hex collars can be removed using the same tool than the installation. They also allow for a pre-torque tightening, then a final torque installation when the frangile part shears off.
The collars can be made of several materials to accomodate shear or tension applications.

Self-sealing |
The HI-LOK™ self-aligning collars retain all the physical properties of basic collars, with the additional feature of adapting to a sloped surface up to a maximum of 7°, eliminating the need for spot facing.
The HI-LOK™ self-sealing collar incorporates an insert fitted into the internal counter-bore of the collar. During installation the insert flows to provide positive sealing in the thread-to-shank transition area of the fastener. No other sealing or caulking compound is necessary.

The HI-LOK™ Reduced-hex collar provides more clearance for installation and allows reduced edge-distance.
