A barrel nut is a specialized nut for high tension applications where the mating item is a large structural item and when a wrench cannot be applied to the nut. The major components of a barrel nut are the barrel, a nut and a retaining cage. The semi-circular configuration of the barrel provides angular alignment tolerance within the structure, while the cage provides additional ‘X’ and ’Y’ plane alignment tolerance. Barrel nuts are available in a variety of high strength materials, including Inco 718.
LISI AEROSPACE manufactures all the different barrel nut standards of the industry in their various diameters and raw materials. Over a thousand parts are shipped every month to support aircraft assembly lines.
